Why does the NIR LED appear to be not working?

The near infrared (800-900nm) spectrum is beyond the visible range of the human eye (400-700nm), so it cannot be directly perceived by the naked eye. When the NIR LED is on, you may only see a tiny pink dot or an extremely subtle pink hue. Nevertheless, these LEDs do release a lot of light energy, ensuring that your ELVISH red light lamp will function perfectly as designed.

How does Photobiomodulation (PBM) work?

Red and near-infrared light therapies work deep into the cell by increasing energy production in the mitochondria. Mitochondria are tiny energy centers within cells that are responsible for providing energy to every cell in the body. Specific red and near-infrared photons interact with cytochrome c oxidase within the cell, stimulating the mitochondria to use oxygen more efficiently, which in turn increases the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). ATP is a key energy molecule that maintains cell vitality and supports important physiological processes such as muscle contraction, nerve signaling, and biosynthesis. By increasing cellular energy levels, these treatments promote optimal performance of all systems in the body.

Are your lights โ€œFDA approvedโ€?

ELVISH is registered with the FDA, but the ELVISH device is not โ€œFDA approved.โ€ The ELVISH device is a low-risk, general health product designed to affect the body through localized heat.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for regulating the marketing of new medical devices under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1976 as amended. 21 USC ยง 360c. The FDA classifies devices into three categories based on the risk they pose to the public. ยง 360c(f); see also 21 CFR ยง 860.3 (2018).

Under FDA regulations, marketers may not market high-risk products without FDA premarket approval, a regulatory pathway that includes a rigorous review of safety and effectiveness data. FDA, Device Advice: Comprehensive Regulatory Assistance: Medical Device Regulatory Overview: How to Research and Market Your Device: Premarket Submissions: Premarket Approval (PMA), available at https://www.fda.gov/medicaldevices/deviceregulationandguidance//howtomarketyourdevice/premarketsubmissions/premarketapprovalpma/

Low-risk devices undergo a less rigorous regulatory review, the 510(k) regulatory pathway, which does not require clinical data to demonstrate effectiveness or safety, only that the new device is โ€œsubstantially equivalentโ€ to an existing device that is already legally marketed in the United States. FDA, Device Advice: Comprehensive Regulatory Assistance: How to Research and Market Your Device: Premarket Submissions: Premarket Notification 510(k), available at https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/premarket-submissions-selecting-and-preparing-correct-submission/premarket-notification-510k.

These devices are often referred to as being โ€œapprovedโ€ by the FDA.

In addition, FDA has exempted some low-risk devices, such as heating pads and local heating devices that emit infrared light, like all other ELVISH devices, from the 510(k) regulatory pathway. Ibid.; see also 21 CFR ยง 890.5550 (2018) (exempting infrared lamps from 510(k) premarket notification requirements); 21 CFR ยง 890.5950 (2018) (exempting electrically powered heating devices from 510(k) premarket notification requirements). These 510(k)-exempt devices are not subject to FDA regulatory review before companies bring them to market.

FDA also separately requires U.S. medical device manufacturers and distributors to register and submit a list of their devices annually, a process known as โ€œestablishment registration.โ€ 21 CFR ยง 807 (2018); FDA, Device Advice: Comprehensive Regulatory Assistance: How to Study and Market Your Device: Device Registration and Listing, available at

https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/how-study-and-market-your-device/device-registration-and-listing

The purpose of this registration requirement is that when a public health emergency occurs, the FDA needs to inform the FDA of the location where the medical device is manufactured so that the FDA can respond in a timely manner.

What are the EMF levels?

Letโ€™s discuss the four main aspects of electromagnetic fields (EMF) in detail:

Radio Frequency (RF): Our devices do not contain any Bluetooth or WiFi transmitters.

Magnetic Fields: Our battery-powered devices (beauty instrument series) use direct current and do not generate magnetic fields; the plug-in panels generate very low magnetic fields, tested to be 0.0mG to about 0.5mG at the recommended distance, which is well below the exposure limits for pregnant women and children. We use highly sensitive commercial-grade EMF measurement equipment for testing to ensure accurate and reliable data.

Electric Fields: Our devices have been tested to generate no electric fields on the panel surface.

Flicker: All plug-in panels use a dedicated LED power driver to eliminate flicker caused by AC power; the battery-powered beauty instrument series uses direct current and has no flicker.

In general, our devices are designed to be low in electromagnetic fields. However, any device with electrical current flowing will generate some level of electromagnetic fields. At a distance of more than 6 inches, our devices generate almost no measurable electromagnetic fields. Compared to many household appliances, our products have significantly reduced electromagnetic field emissions by focusing on the necessary electrical components (without adding unnecessary elements such as Bluetooth or WiFi). In particular, products that integrate the App may emit electromagnetic radiation via WiFi/Bluetooth signals, which may continue to pollute your environment even when not in use.

Does the desktop panel come with a stand?

Yes, the ELVISH E300, ELVISH S300 and ELVISH G40 come with a sturdy 180 degree bracket that attaches to the light (as shown in the product photos).

Is this certified safe?

ELVISH red light devices are ETL listed (5022991) and meet the industry's highest electrical performance and safety standards.

ELVISH is also FDA registered.

Red and near infrared LED lights are very safe when designed and used properly.

What is beam angle and why does it matter?

Some LED light board manufacturers use a wide beam angle of 90 degrees. However, using a very wide beam angle causes the power density to drop off quickly with distance. The angle at which the light is emitted from the source is the primary factor in determining how power density changes with distance. A wide beam angle (90 degrees) causes the power density to drop off very quickly. If you plan to use the light for a larger area and need to treat at a greater distance from the device, a 90 degree beam angle is generally not the best choice.

On the other hand, some manufacturers choose a very narrow 30 degree beam angle. This design requires the LEDs to be closely spaced to avoid dark areas. This can result in a higher "peak" power measurement for the device, but a smaller device size (because the LEDs need to be more closely spaced). However, devices with a 30 degree beam angle tend to be uncomfortable to look at, even briefly. We believe that devices with a 30 degree beam angle are generally less safe and provide a poorer user experience than devices with wider beam angles.

The ELVISH Red Light Board is designed with a 60 degree "sweet spot" beam angle to ensure adequate power density for treatment at greater distances while maximizing usability, comfort, and safety.

Can I use lights in my sauna?

We generally do not recommend using our lights in any type of sauna, as constant exposure to high heat/humidity may shorten the life of the LEDs.

Can I use an extension cord with the lamp?

Using a three prong extension cord is fine as long as the power rating of the cord matches the wattage of the device. Some of our large panels and multi-light arrays draw a lot of current, so it is important to make sure the cord can handle the total current. All of our plug-in panels have power consumption data listed in the product listing. If you have any questions, please contact customer service.

Usage Problems

Do I need to wear eye protection when using the light?

While a growing body of scientific research suggests that moderate amounts of red and near-infrared LED light may benefit certain eye conditions, ELVISH's plug-in lights are VERY bright! Do not look directly into the light emitting diode (LED) while in use.

Each light comes with goggles that should be worn when facing the light, especially when the near-infrared light is activated. The included goggles are designed for these wavelengths of light. At ELVISH, customer safety is our top priority.

Again, our ELVISH lights are VERY bright, and if you have any eye issues or any other health condition, please consult a licensed healthcare professional before using a device like ELVISH.

Any contraindications? Can I overuse these devices?

More is not always better!

In red light therapy, the effect is an inverted U-shaped curve, more light does not necessarily lead to better results! The advantage of the ELVISH red light device is that you can get the same benefits in a shorter time compared to other products on the market.

Therefore, we recommend a minimum of 6 hours between two treatments on the same area. When using the panel, each treatment time is recommended to be no longer than 15 minutes. It is recommended to use the device 4-10 times a week, with at least one day of rest.

What is the difference between red light and near infrared light?

Red light is absorbed by the skin, boosting collagen production and improving skin condition.

Near infrared light penetrates deeper and helps with muscle recovery, cell renewal, and joint pain.

Can pregnant or breastfeeding women undergo red light therapy?

Because there are currently no clinical studies of red light therapy treatments in pregnant or breastfeeding women, do not use this device in pregnant or breastfeeding women without consulting a healthcare provider.

Can light penetrate clothing?

Near infrared light can penetrate clothing to a certain extent, but red light cannot penetrate clothing effectively. Therefore, we generally recommend exposing clean bare skin to the light when the use environment allows.
